When creating a smart set you have a rule selection drop down menu.  This contains two options.  Match ALL rules and match ANY rules.

These options are important to understand when you are creating a smart set with multiple search line.

In this example we will be running the same search once with the ALL rule and once with the ANY rule.

We are going to create a multi layered search in contacts for
Dollars Per Year is greater then 1000
Latest Transaction Date is after January 1, 2019

If we run this smart set with the Match ALL Rules option your search will return results based on ALL searches combined.  The means the search will pull records where Dollars Per Year is greater than 1000 AND Latest Transaction Date is after January 1, 2019.  ALL the search criteria must be satisfied. In the image below you will note that the dollars per year column is all greater then 1000 and the leatest transaction date is all after 2019-01-01.

If we run this smart set with the Match ANY Rules option your search will return results based on ANY of the searches separately.  The means the search will pull records where Dollars Per Year is greater than 1000 OR Latest Transaction Date is after January 1, 2019.  This is running both searches independently which means ANY of the search criteria can be satisfied. In the image below you will note that either dollars per year OR latest transaction date match their respective search.  For example Abra Hardin has dollars per year of $72.00 but the latest transaction date is after January 1, 2019 so he displays in this search.  Where Anil Kapoor has dollars per year over 1000 but the latest trabsaction date is before January 1, 2019.
